The Japanese minor offers courses in the language, literatures and cultures of Japan. Students in the minor acquire language skills and cultural knowledge of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, including pop-culture and its influences. Students gain transferable skills such as global awareness, cross-cultural literacy and the ability to work with diverse groups, preparing them for careers in fields including cultural consulting, business, interpreting, journalism, public health, media sales and tourism. In addition, the minor prepares students to work in industries with Japanese clients, including video game companies, as well as for future graduate work in disciplines such as education, Japanese studies, political science, diplomacy and linguistics, among others.
