Statistics
Joshua Tebbs, Chair
Statistics is the science of data. Students can use statistics and data science in all fields, including public health, education, business, medicine and engineering. Our department offers a major and a minor in statistics. The Bachelor of Science degree program provides a strong basis in both applied and theoretical statistics and prepares students for the pursuit of graduate study in statistics or for employment by industry or government. Students can choose between the general major and the major with emphasis in actuarial mathematics and statistics.
Statistics is also an ideal double major for students to obtain knowledge and advanced analytical skills to enhance many complementary fields of study. A minor in statistics offers students an edge for employment and future academic pursuits by providing a foundation of analytical thinking and an understanding of probability and mathematical statistics, as well as technical writing and presentation skills.
