The Italian minor offers courses in the language, literatures and cultures of Italy. Students in the minor acquire advanced language skills and cultural knowledge, with exposure to Italian film, theater, literature and philosophers. Many of the cultural courses, including our Italian Cinema class, are taught in English so that even students with no language ability can explore the arts, customs, and social institutions of contemporary Italy.  

Students in the minor gain transferable skills such as global awareness, cross-cultural literacy and the ability to work with diverse groups, preparing them for employment in fields including education, government, journalism, business, publishing and translation. A background in Italian studies also may benefit those pursuing primary studies or future graduate work in areas such as law, medicine, political science, economics, diplomacy, linguistics, the arts and more.
