Operations and Supply Chain Management, Certificate
A certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management will prepare students with core skills in the areas of process design and continuous improvement, quality management, forecasting and demand management, capacity planning, inventory management, global sourcing, supplier management, supply chain risk management, and project management, among others. It is expected that students graduating with a certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management will have strong career opportunities. Successful completion of the certificate will enable students to pursue careers in a number of sectors including but not limited to manufacturing, technology, retailing, healthcare, supply chain and logistics services, consulting, financial services, and non-profits.
Learning Outcomes
- To gain an understanding of the concepts and tools needed for the design, management, and improvement of operations and business processes in individual organizations.
- To gain an understanding of global sourcing strategies.
- To gain an understanding of various supply chain management strategies and techniques.
- To manage and improve operational processes.
- To gain experience applying supply chain and operations management knowledge and skills to real world organizations.
Admissions Requirements
Candidates who possess the following credentials may consider themselves competitive for admission to the Graduate Operations and Supply Chain Management Certificate.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for all coursework completed beyond high school.
- A basic understanding of business concepts.
- A professional background in business, engineering, analytics, law, public health, or data science is beneficial but not required.
- For international applicants, a TOEFL score of 95 or higher, or an IELTS score of 7.0 or higher.
Each application is evaluated by the admissions committee, which makes an official recommendation to the Graduate School. The Graduate School makes the final decision and notifies the applicant of the decision.
Certificate Requirements (12-13 Hours)
Pre-requisite Courses
MGSC 771 and MGSC 776 both have DMSB 718 or MGSC 791 and DMSB 712 or MGSC 711 as pre-requisite courses. These courses are ordinarily taken in the core of an MBA program. Non-MBA students may have to take these courses before participating in the program. The pre-requisite may be waived due to previous coursework or appropriate professional experience by the program committee.
