Admissions

Applicants admitted to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville are selected by the Admissions Committee, which holds the final authority for admissions decisions. The committee is composed of members of the biomedical science and clinical science faculty, graduate medical education staff, and community members.

The Admissions Committee applies a structured, mission-aligned review process to evaluate applicants and determine admission decisions. The committee considers applicants’ academic readiness, experiences, and personal and professional attributes in alignment with the school’s mission and vision. The admission procedure is therefore an effort to select applicants who possess the individual characteristics required for both the study and the practice of medicine. The school seeks to enroll students who have achieved academic excellence, bring a unique set of perspectives and insights to the academic environment, and who exhibit exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, maturity, integrity, honesty, empathy, a propensity for teamwork, emotional stability, leadership, a strong work ethic, self-direction and passion for becoming a doctor.

All applicants must complete required prerequisite coursework, submit an application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), and complete the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), with the exception of applicants participating in the Honors to Graduate Medical Degree (H2GMD) Program.

In accordance with institutional policy, all admitted students must complete a background check and be cleared for matriculation by Prisma Health Student Affairs Administration.
