Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify and describe historical and theoretical foundations of the community and technical college movement in America.
  2. Identify and describe foundations of assessment and accountability in the community college and their application in current practice.
  3. Identify and describe equity and access issues within the curriculum, teaching, student services, and administration in the community college.
  4. Identify and describe leadership theories and practices for the community college setting.
  5. Identify and describe legal issues and policies that impact community colleges.
  6. Identify and describe foundations of financial aspects, practices, and budgeting models in the community college setting.

Specialized Competencies

  • Provide the knowledge and skills required of mid-level and above leaders in a community college system.
  • Serve as an incentive for engaging graduates of the Certificate Program in terminal degree programs.

Certificate Requirements (18 Hours)

The certificate in higher education leadership is open to faculty, administrators, and staff of technical colleges who hold a baccalaureate or higher degree.

Students interested in subsequent enrollment in the M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs should note that all certificate and master’s hours must be completed within six years to earn the M.Ed.
